Historic Wilmington Foundation Awards

Suzanne Stanley & Libby Beccarino

A big CONGRATULATIONS to Libby & Maureen Beccarino and Suzanne Stanley for winning awards at the recent Historic Wilmington Foundation Award Ceremony!

PBC is pleased to announce that we were the General Contractor on two projects completed this year that were recipients of awards from the Historic Wilmington Foundation!

Libby and Maureen Beccarino, in addition to managing the Renovation Division, also develop infill lots in the Historic District of Wilmington. Suzanne Stanley owns a home on 224 North 7th Street which had recently experienced a devastating fire deeming the house "totaled" by the insurance company. PBC was pleased to be the contractor on both of these projects!

Libby & Maureen have built 18 new homes in the Historic District over the past six years. By building on vacant lots that have been abandoned for years, the Beccarinos have slowly started transforming neighborhoods with homes that fit seamlessly with the surrounding houses.

Suzanne Stanley is considered by many to be the downtown neighborhood historian! Her house on 7th Street was built in the mid 1800's and was the home to Eli Whitney's son. After a fire destroyed the structure last year, Suzanne & PBC worked together to figure out how to not only save the home but bring it back to its former glory. The project has a happy ending with a beautifully restored home thanks in part to Suzanne's determination to not let a bad situation destroy a piece of history.

We want to congratulate both Suzanne and the Beccarinos on their awards and thank them for teaming up with Plantation Building Corp to achieve this recognition!

Our latest project in Brunswick Forest, the Merrimac, has a neat little detail on the left side of the house: a cupola. We have commissioned local artist Dumay Gorham to create an amazing piece to fit perfectly on top of the cupola! Stay tuned for updates. This house is going to be incredible!

We used some gorgeous custom drum pendants in a few of our houses in Shelmore by Alluminare, a company based out of Oregon that manufactures all lights in the United States. They loved our model so much that they used it on their website under "Modern Ceiling Lighting Ideas." Check it out!

Plantation Building Corp., a full-service contracting firm based in Wilmington, NC, has been awarded the Gold for Tanyard Parish, a 9 unit residential building located in historic downtown Wilmington. David Spetrino, Plantation's President & CEO, accepted the honor at the Awards Banquet held at UNCW on May 1st, 2009.

A panel of twenty judges from North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia independently judged all aspects of the entry homes including interiors, exteriors, floorplans, quality of materials, craftsmanship and overall design.

This is the third year in a row that Plantation Building Corp has been awarded the Gold. Previous winners include the Modern Baking Company and New York Hatters , which also won "Low Rise Project of the Year" from Multifamily Executive Magazine.

This year we have two entries: Tanyard Parish and a custom home client, The Robertie's. We would love for you to come visit us during the Parade and see these fabulous places in person!

Tanyard Parish is located in the Historic District in Downtown Wilmington and includes 9 exclusive residences with stunning views of the Cape Fear River! The building is historic in appearance, yet is newly constructed with all the modern amenities. Restaurants, shopping, museums, galleries, theaters & the Cape Fear Riverwalk is right outside the front door!

Located in Winding River Plantation in Brunswick County, The Robertie Residence is a 3100 square foot, two story home on pilings with a full garage and a large 3 season room on the back porch. This gorgeous house also boasts a "Green Certification Level of Silver" by the NAHB Research Center. This is achieved by earning points for environmentally friendly features installed throughout the the home. Examples of technology used to earn this recognition at the Robertie's: correct resourcing & sizing of all heating and cooling systems, instantaneous hot water heaters, icynene insulation, "Low VOC" paints and innovative gutter/landscaping irrigation techniques. Both submissions are excellent examples of our commitment to fine workmanship and attention to detail.

In our Renovations Division, Libby & Kyle are working on an incredible restoration on 10 South Fifth Street for Tom & Lucia Hughes, originally known as "The Williams House."

The 8400 square foot restoration includes: a new kitchen with tuscany tile ceiling, five fireplaces on the first floor alone, 4 new baths, a two story covered porch with a rooftop deck and a two story detached garage.

Plantation Building Corp., a full-service contracting firm based in Wilmington, NC, has been recognized with a 2008 Project of the Year award from Multifamily Executive magazine for its New York Hatters project, a three-story, mixed-use building located in downtown Wilmington. David Spetrino, Plantation's president & CEO, accepted the award at the Multifamily Executive and Developer Conference gala held on October 14th in Las Vegas.

New York Hatters was one of only two projects honored in the Low Rise category. Plantation is the only Project of the Year award winner from North Carolina and New York Hatters is the first North Carolina project since 2005 to be recognized with an award from Multifamily Executive.Each Project of the Year nominee was evaluated on its demonstrated innovation in architecture, floor plan efficiency, suitability to target market, creative use of materials, interior design, landscaping, creative financing solution and the ability to work with government and community officials. This year's winners were chosen by a group of industry judges from across the U.S., including distinguished developers, builders. architects, and trade association executives, as well as editors from Multifamily Executive and Developer magazines. According to the senior editor of Multifamily Executive and Developer, Rachel Azoff, this year's contest exceeded expectations in terms of quantity and quality of applicants, with roughly 240 submissions. "With such a large pool of entries, the competition was robust, and our judges had some very difficult decisions to make," stated Azoff. New York Hatters will be featured, along with the other winners, in the November/December issues of both Multifamily Executive and Developer magazines.
